Company Profile

Uri Vehicle Manufacturing (Pty) Ltd is in the business of manufacturing uncompromised vehicles for  mining, policing, defence, agricultural, leisure and recreational markets. Due to the vehicles unique characteristics, the Uri is a workhorse that can easily meet the demanding needs and requirements of the marketplace. These product attributes will render the Uri to become, not only locally, but an internationally acclaimed vehicle.

The Uri is a utility vehicle that achieved S.A.B.S. homologation status during 2003. The vehicle is designed and built for economically transporting people and goods over any terrain. Built from thick walled steel tubing and clad with 1.6mm sheet metal, the unitary type framework offers great strength and durability whilst minimizing overall mass. Placing heavy driving components towards the back of the vehicle, optimal mass distribution is achieved resulting in improved traction. This together with the long – travel suspension and high ground clearance explains the Uri’s excellent performance in off road conditions.

The built strength and durability of the vehicle makes it ideally suited for application in demanding environments such as the mining and defence industry. The development of a vehicle suited to these conditions was thus a natural route to follow when the expansion of the model range was considered. The vehicle now doing duty in various mines was developed over a period of time in conjunction with various users. This development culminated in a product that is not only exceptionally rugged, but can also be adapted to suit specific requirements and applications.

The majority shareholding in Uri was acquired by Ngwane Ordinance during 2006. Uri is a member of the Ngwane Defence group. During 2008 a new management team with years of experience was appointed, and took the leading role by relocating to new facilities in the east of Pretoria. The new 2600 square meter manufacturing facility significantly increased the production capabilities, and allows for continuous research and development programs. Current projects include major investments in new model development as well as quality control and management systems.
